Baseball, very positive start for Stella Carni Viterbo Baseball under 12

On Sunday 12 February, the Under 12 “Stella Carni Viterbo Baseball” began its 2023 competitive activity with participation in the Montefiascone indoor tournament “Memorial Andrea Bologna”.
The teams Stella Carni Viterbo Baseball, Red Foxes Roma, Cali Acilia and Montefiascone ’67 took part in the tournament.
Viterbo Baseball brought home the entire tally of the Under 12 tournament with two victories, the first with Montefiascone, winning 11 to 1 and the second with the Red Foxes of Rome, 12 to 8.
After the winter break, the Under 12s, who have so far trained in the gym under the guidance of Livio Quatrini and Federico Morini, have begun to savor the field even if with the reduced dimensions and the field rules typical of indoor tournaments.
In the first game the pitchers Vittorio Mazza and Roniel Cabrera Gomez stood out against whom the Montefiascone batsmen could do very little. Mazza, new to his position as starting pitcher, finished his innings with five strike outs, only two hits and one walk allowed. Roniel Cabrera Gomez did even better with a respectable performance that allowed only one hit and one base on walks and six strike out.
In attack, the bats from Viterbo were able to do very little because they were granted twelve bases on bales, so batting opportunities were greatly reduced. Only Samuele Pietrini and Gianmarco Stavagna took advantage of it, the former with a good four-base home run and the latter with another two-base home run. It should be noted that the team from Viterbo fielded three players in their first game for the occasion: Daimelis Cabrera Gomez, Matteo Capponi and little Antonio Pelagalli.
The second game saw Viterbo lined up against the Red Foxes of Rome: the result 12 to 8 shouldn’t be misleading because Thomas Faccenda was also lined up on the mountain in addition to the usual Vittorio Mazza and Roniel Cabrera Gomez. A little tiredness, a little emotion made points conceded but the match was always firmly in the hands of Viterbo who was also able to count on the hits of Cabrera Gomez and Mazza.
The formation of the two meetings was as follows: Faccenda, Cabrera Roniel, Stavagna, Pietrini, Mazza, Cabrera Daimelis, Pepe, Capponi, Pelagalli. Absent in the formation of Viterbo for various reasons Daniele Torri, Leonardo Morelli and Andrea Troili.
