Bundesliga shrinks to seven clubs. Traiskirchen is surprised.

The indoor training is already in full swing. In mid-April, the Traiskirchen Grasshoppers start in the domestic Bundesliga, in which no stone was left unturned in the off-season. “It was to be expected that Feldkirch would withdraw. Attnang came completely unexpectedly”, not only Grasshoppers chairman Peter Feichtinger was surprised that the multiple champion withdrew from the top league.

This means that in 2023 only seven teams will play in the Bundesliga instead of the previous nine. The division system is a thing of the past, there is only one overall table in which the top four move into the semi-finals (best-of-five) after 24 games (everyone plays four times against everyone else).

The flop three then play six more games against the champions of the three 2nd leagues. “But it probably won’t be about promotion and relegation,” because many clubs don’t (any longer) have the structures for the Bundesliga.
