Banksy. Street artist’s mural in Ukraine becomes a postage stamp – News

On the first anniversary of the Russian invasion, Ukraine issued a postage stamp featuring a mural of Banksythe same one that the street artist painted on a demolished wall in the city of Borodianka, northwest of Kiev.

the work, Report BBC, depicts a boy defeating a grown man in judo: an image targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin, known to have been a black belt in the martial arts. The Cyrillic phrase “FCK PTN” has been added to the stamp (any explanation of its meaning is superfluous).

A few months ago, Banksy confirmed the authorship of seven murals in different locations in Ukraine, including the aforementioned Borodianka. The iconic stencils appeared on the remains of ruined buildings that collapsed under the weight of bombs. Among others, there are also a dancing girl balanced on a pile of rubble, a launch pad with a penis (already existing) instead of missiles, a bearded man taking a bath, a woman in a dressing gown with curlers and a mask antigas, two children astride an old piece of scrap metal.

It is not known how Banksy managed to create the works in places so distant from each other, moreover in a place of war, but it is not the first time that the anonymous street artist has acted on a large scale.

The last outdoor graffiti, before the Ukrainian series, dated back to 2020 and had appeared in Bristol, in his hometown. That time, the protagonist of his work was Covid.
