Badminton: Ee Wei is grateful to have had the chance to learn from a seasoned duo

PETALING JAYA: National mixed doubles commuter Toh Ee Wei is grateful to have the opportunity to learn from the more experienced Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing.

Ee Wei and partner Chen Tang Jie have been selected for the Asian Mixed Tag Team Championships in Dubai from February 14-19 with independent duo and world number 6 Kian Meng-Pei Jing.

Both pairs are currently undergoing centralized training at the Academy of Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.

“I really appreciate this opportunity to train with Kian Meng and Pei Jing.

“They are our seniors and an experienced pair. We learn new skills and tactics from them,” Ee Wei said.

The 22-year-old formed a promising partnership with Tang Jie after their merger last November.

In their short time together, the duo have won two titles so far – Bangladesh and Iran International Challenge – and finished second in the Malaysian International Challenge.

Their encouraging results saw them reach 48th place in the latest world rankings.

“Everyone in the team helps each other and the environment is positive,” said Ee Wei, who will make his debut in the Asian competition.

“We will be ready to play if selected.”

Malaysia were drawn in Group B with India, host the United Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan in the tournament which also serves as a qualifier for the Sudirman Cup in Suzhou, China from May 14-21.

The top two teams in the group will advance to the last eight and the semi-finalists are guaranteed places in the Sudirman Cup.
