ATP – Dubai – Malek Jaziri, his farewell: “No regrets, I gave it all” #DDFTennis #Jaziri #Davidovich #tennis #Pospisil

A page turns for Tunisian tennis. Before the explosionOur Jabeur, Malek Jaziri allowed Tunisia to make a name for itself on the tennis planet by climbing to 42nd place in the world in 2019. On Monday, at 39, Bizertin played their very last career match at theDubai ATP 500. Unsurprisingly, he leaned sharply against Alexander Davidovich Fokina, 6-2, 6-0. At least, the one who played 249 ATP matches was able to greet the public one last time and have fun before opening a new page in his life: that of a coach.

“I hope to guide Vasek Pospisil on the right path”

While he had not yet officially ended his career, Malek Jaziri had already launched that of coach. The now ex-Tunisian player has chosen to become the coach of Vasek Pospisil for the year 2023. The two men had already started working together a few months ago, and after good results at the end of the season, they decided to continue the adventure together. For a long time outside the Top 100, the Canadian just regained this status at the end of November. As a reminder, worn out, the Canadian should take a break for several months. The tandem may be on the Tour around Roland-Garros. “A few months ago I had a coaching experience with Pospisil, we started working together at the end of last season. Right now I’m in a new experience with him, it’s a big player, so I’m happy to be with him in this adventure, I hope to guide him on the right path. I want to help him, improve his ranking and achieve good results. At the same time, I have some ideas on the side, but we’ll see, maybe I’ll surprise you” Jaziri explained about it.

“I’ve played against most No. 1s and top seeds here, I have a lot of flashbacks. I can’t describe how I feel”

At a press conference, the Tunisian returned to his experience in Dubai. “It’s a special place for me, I have very good memories, that’s why I wanted to end my career here. I want to thank the event for the opportunity to play my last ATP tournament here. It was very exciting, I have a lot of memories here since I was 12, I have in my head all the games I played here. I’ve played against most number 1s and seeds here, I have a lot of flashbacks. I can’t describe how I feel right now, you don’t know what will happen, nothing is easy. I always wanted to end up here, it means everything to me, to the people of Dubai, who gave me so much, with all the Arab population here.”

“Thanks to my parents who gave me the opportunity to realize my dream”

He then continued: “Thanks to my parents who gave me the opportunity to realize my dream, to do what I really wanted to do. It’s not easy to do this in the Arab world, to make the decision to stop studying, to have the initiative by being born in Tunisia, where no one has done it before me. I didn’t know what my path would be, but I did a lot of things well. The first thought that comes to me is, “I made it.” I did more things than I really thought my dream was to be in the top 100 and I ended up in the top 50, no one before me dreamed of being in the top 20, top 10 or number 1. I have no regrets, I gave it my all.”
