“Zemgale” of Jelgava/LLU celebrated the victory of “Optibet” Hockey League (OHL) in Daugavpils on Saturday, while in Kaunas “Prizma” of Riga achieved a convincing success.

“Zemgale”/LLU beat “Daugavpils Ledus Sporta Skola”/”Dinaburga” team 5:2 (0:0, 3:0, 2:2) away.
For the winners, Roberts Vitols collected three (1+2) performance points, while Uldis Pūpols (1+1) and defender Vitalijs Cherkas (0+2) – two each.
Lukas Bukatov saved 24 of 26 shots.
He was also recognized as the best player of the match in the visiting team, while defender Imants Leščovs earned this honor for the home team, who made one successful pass.
“Prizma” defeated Kaunas “City” 11:3 (4:1, 1:1, 6:1) away.
Kristaps Riekstiņš scored four goals, Lauris Rancevs (2+1), Edijs Brahmanis and defender Kristaps Millers (both – 0+3) scored three points each.
For the home team, Aivars Benžus collected two (1+1) performance points.
For the guests, Jānis Auziņš saved 23 of 26 shots.
At the end of the match, a fight broke out, Valter Apfelbaum and home team Egidijus Binkulis each scored 5+20 minutes, while Benj received a ten-minute disciplinary penalty.
The “Mogo”/LSPA team is at the head of the table with 50 points in 26 matches, the “Zemgale”/LLU team has 46 points in 27 matches, and the Riga “Dinamo” has 35 points in 26 matches. “Prism” has 28 points in 25 matches, “Rīga” Hockey School scored 25 points in 25 matches, while “City” of Kaunas and “Energija” Elektrēni got 21 points in 26 matches. Vilnius “Hockey Punks” follow with 19 points in 25 games, while “Daugavpils Ledus Sporta Skola”/”Dinaburga” have two points in 28 games.
This season, nine teams are playing in the league – six from Latvia and three from Lithuania.
In the 2021/2022 season, Jelgava “Zemgale”/LLU won their first Latvian championship title, defeating the previous champion “Olimp”/”Venta 2002” in the series with 4-0.
