Xavi Regrets Playing Ansu Fati Late

Xavi Hernandez regrets not bringing Ansu Fati on early against Real Betis. Fati made a change even though Barcelona still had to win on penalties.

Barcelona had to win hard against Real Betis at the King Fahd Stadium in the semifinal match of the Spanish Super Cup, Friday (13/1/2022) early morning WIB. El Barca qualified for the final after winning 4-2 on penalties.

This duel must be completed via penalties after a 2-2 draw. El Barca took the lead through Robert Lewandowski in the first round. After the break, Betis equalized through Nabil Fekir to force the match into extra time.

In extra time, Ansu Fati brought the Blaugrana back into the lead. But again Betis did not give up by being able to equalize from Loren Moron.

In the penalty shootout, four Barcelona kickers, namely Lewandowski, Franck Kessie, Ansu Fati and Pedris, successfully carried out their duties.

Meanwhile, in the Betis camp, two executors, Juanmi and William Carvalho, failed. Only Loren Moron and Willian Jose were able to score goals from the spot.

Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez, admits that he regrets being late to include Ansu Fati in this match. Fati was only included in the 86th minute.

The 20-year-old player immediately made a difference by scoring a goal in extra time. He performed very well despite being given little playing time.

Quoted from WhoScoredhe made four shots and had a successful pass percentage of 90 percent.

Xavi revealed that he should have introduced Fati sooner to change the situation. Even so, Fati’s slick appearance was enough to make Xavi happy.

Fati is still showing great potential in what has been a less-than-impressive season for him. This player from Spain has only made three goals and three assists this season.

“I should have put Ansu in sooner. It was my mistake. He is in good shape and I am happy for him,” Xavi was quoted as saying by AS.
