On February 12, 100 children will remember the athlete who died prematurely in a tournament
Last October unfortunately saw the premature death of Andrea Bologna, who deeply grieved the whole Montefiasconese baseball environment, at this moment particularly close to his brother Luca and all his family members.
Andrea has spent 24 of his 56 years on the various fields where the yellow-green teams have played. From 1976 to 2000, Andrea followed the club in the continuous migrations it had to make before arriving at the current stadium: in 1976, Andrea, with the Youth Games, played where the Palazzetto dello Sport is today, then the team moved in Zepponami, at Villa Salotti in 1987, to then finally have a real field, where in 1993 the memorable match was played with the Cuban national team: Andrea was one of the few who managed to make a joke against the reigning world champions, even se only got one out at first base by Cuban star player Kindelan.
The sadness caused by the news in Montefiascone Baseball soon gave way to the desire to remember it in a festive way. Thanks to the collaboration of the Municipal Administration and the availability and collaboration of the volleyball clubs, in particular Libertas Montefiascone and Volley ’88, which freed up an entire Sunday at the Palazzetto dello Sport, it was possible to launch a large indoor tournament for Sunday February 12, reserved for the Minibaseball and Under 12 categories, from 7 to 12 years old.
The teams of Viterbo Baseball, Red Foxes Roma and CALI Acilia will participate in the tournament, as well as of course the yellow-greens. It will be played continuously from 8.30 in the morning, until the final award ceremony with group photo at 18.30, with the souvenir shirt of the tournament, printed in different colors, with which all the matches will be played.
It will be a big colorful party and, for the yellow-green Under 12s, also the first time that pitchers and catchers will play, given that until now, in the beginners’ category, one’s own coach was expected to be pitcher.
