Who are the most affected tennis players after their elimination?

Although the official ranking, both of the ATP as of the WTAwill be updated on Monday, January 30, after the closing of the australian openyou know who they will be the tennis players who will fall for it the most after being eliminated in the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.

Either because they did not defend enough points or because they were eliminated early, there are many players who will see their position altered for what is to come in the men’s and women’s calendars.

On the ATP side, the most affected tennis players were Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev, Matteo Berrettini, Denis Shapovalov, Daniel Galán, Christopher O’Connell, Aslan Karatsev and Cristian Garín.

The man from Manacor could not defend the points obtained after his championship at the 2022 Australian Open, so he virtually dropped to sixth place but it could be more considering how far Holger Rune or Karen Khachanov go in Melbourne 2023. In this way he would be very close to leaving the Top Ten, a lot that he has not been in since April 2005.

Who did come out of privileged places is Daniil Medvedev. The Russian, who was defending the 2022 final, was eliminated in the third round at the hands of Sebastián Korda and lost 1,200 points. In this way he will drop to 12th position (minimum) and will no longer be among the top 10 in the world after almost four years.

On the side of Berrettini and Shapovalov, eliminated by Andy Murray (first round) and Hubert Hurkacz (third round) respectively, they will fall to places they are not used to being. The Italian will leave the Top 20 while the Canadian is close to leaving the Top 30. As for Galán, the Colombian will leave the Top 70 after being surprisingly eliminated in the first round against Jeremy Chardy (he had not played singles since the US Open 2021). and fell just 130 points away from breaking the Top 100.

The Australian O’Connell could not defend what was done in 2022 (third round) either and was on the verge of leaving the Top 100, a place he has held since October 2022. Finally, as for the men’s branch, there are Aslan Karatsev and Cristian Garin. The Russian lost in his debut at the hands of Jenson Brooksby and will drop to 97th place, leaving him just 22 points away from leaving the world’s best batch while the Chilean will leave the top 100 batch for the first time in five years.

In the WTAthe most affected players were: Madison Keys, Danielle Collins and Amanda Anisimova. The first lost 650 points, so it will leave the Top 20 while the second could not repeat what was achieved in 2022 (finalist), so it will fall from position 11 to 39. Finally, the third lost 230 points and will not be able to integrate the Top 30.
