SC Potsdam’s volleyball team achieved a historic victory in the Champions League.

The SC Potsdam volleyball team has achieved a historic victory. The Brandenburg women prevailed in the tie-break at Crvena Zvezda Belgrade on Thursday evening. The 3:2 (21:25, 25:21, 25:17, 23:25, 15:9) meant the first success in the third Champions League game of the current season and at the same time the first ever in the club’s history.

Target for third place

“We’re playing at Crvena Zvezda to score points,” said sporting director Toni Rieger before leaving for Serbia. And the women from Potsdam delivered thanks to a strong team performance. First they turned a 0:1 set deficit, then were not deterred by the 2:2 equalization and clearly won in the tie-break.

SC Potsdam is third behind VakifBank Istanbul and Igor Gorgonzola Novara, the dominant teams in Group C. The success in Belgrade was an important step towards the intermediate goal. The SCP wants to secure participation in the second-rate CEV Cup by coming third in the strong group.

Top game against Dresden

The team travels back to Potsdam on Friday morning. The next challenge awaits there on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. In the top game of the volleyball league, second-placed Potsdam meets fourth-placed Dresden in the MBS Arena.
