Unusual, ATP > Bonzi (on frustrated punters): “These are insults about your family, like ‘go fuck your dead’, ‘I hope you’ll break both your legs’… Very cute stuff, in English, in Italian, in French, in all languages”

Beaten in the third round of the Australian Open by Alex De Minaur, Benjamin Bonzi, who will become French number one in the coming days, spoke after the meeting about the many insults he receives (and he is far from the only one) on social networks after each of his defeats.

“It’s part of the bad side of sports betting, having popularity and being exposed. You have to succeed in detaching yourself from that, not getting knocked out by everything you can receive. You have to stay focused on the essentials and manage to tell yourself that these people don’t count. We are human, we are not robots. When you receive messages, it pisses you off, but it’s often in the hot reactions. When you are frustrated to have lost and the emotions are not very positive at the base, it can sometimes affect you more than others. But once a few hours have passed, it doesn’t rub off. These are insults about your family, like ‘go fuck your dead’, ‘I hope you’ll break both your legs’… Very cute stuff, in English, in Italian, in French, in all languages. »
