Twelve medals for Avilés in the first judo event of the year

The Judo Club Avilés started the year on the right foot, winning twelve medals in the first scoring circuit for the Spanish Championship, held at the Tudela de Agüeria sports center in Oviedo. The infantiles obtained six medals and the cadets five, and the coach of the club, Carlos Fernández, has set himself the goal of achieving more gold medals in the next commitments.

The first to compete were the children, with Saúl Fernández as the most outstanding, with a gold. Héctor Cruz was silver, and Avilés also added five bronzes, thanks to Hugo Cruz, Noé Rodríguez, Carlos Alfredo Linares Cuéllar, Marlon Alejandro Linares Cuélar and Adán Tárano.

Among the cadets, Alejandra Pérez and Raquel Burgos climbed to the top of the podium, Illán Gutiérrez won silver and Nel Suárez and Luis Villabrille were bronze. “Tudela leads the way,” underlines Carlos Fernández, who qualifies that “a club like ours must aspire to more. Talking about 12 metals globally is not bad, but our goal should be more positions at the top. There are cases where it can be done.”

The negative note was the injury of Nacho Suárez. The judoka, who joined the club a few months ago, broke the little finger on one hand and will be out of competition for at least five weeks.
