The spectacular baroque masks at the Carnival of the Figli di Bocco

Il Carnival of the Sons of Bocco in 2023 it celebrates its twenty-sixth edition and is ready to bring back to the streets of Castiglione Fibocchi the beautiful baroque masks reminiscent of the traditional Venetian carnival.

if part Saturday 4 February con ‘Waiting for Bocco’s children and continues on Sunday 5 and Saturday 11, with the scheduled closure Sunday 12 February with the traditional Royal Procession with over 200 participants formed by queens, princesses, fairies, wizards and harlequinswhich will travel through the streets of the historic center of the Tuscan municipality.

Il Carnival of Bocco’s children is dedicated this year to Pietro Vannucci, known as il Perugino500 years after his disappearance.

It will be four days of concerts, circus shows with magicians, artists, acrobats, clowns and jugglers, performances of archery, storytelling, traveling exhibitions with painters painting in the alleys of the castle and many other surprises.

But who are Bocco’s children? But most of all: who was King Bocco? Ottaviano Pazzi, known as “Bocco” due to his slightly deformed appearance, he was the ancient regent of Castiglion Fibocchi. To his sons he bequeathed the entire management of the village, but also the burden of give the name to this particular carnival.

Even this year King Bocco will open the castle of the absurd where laughter gives way to crying, ugliness coexists with beauty, where fantasy becomes reality and the heart is intoxicated with fantastic emotions.
