The president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Franco, took stock of 2022 this Friday, a year in which national athletes “have shown their strength” and assured that the “second revolution of Spanish sport is underway”. and next year will be “key” to complete it, according to a statement.
“In 2022, Spanish sport has once again demonstrated its strength. Above all, I would highlight the successes of our athletes as the spearhead of that excellence that we also pursue in the field of management,” Franco said in a shared video by the CSD.
The Secretary of State for Sport listed “with pride” the successes of Spanish basketball, “the main power in the world”; of water polo, “an international reference”, as well as those of the Spaniards Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal, who “command the world rankings”. “And so, I could continue to review the long history of success in canoeing, climbing, athletics, badminton, motorcycling, motor racing,” he added.
“Spain is a power in Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines, and in Paralympic sport. Without a doubt, our athletes, they and they, represent the greatness of our country and are a guide for the future development of our sport,” Franco said.
In addition, he valued the publication in the BOE of the new Sports Law, which “frames a year of intense work in the CSD.” “The revision of the previous text, which had been in force since 1990 and which the sector understood to be obsolete, will allow our sport to speak the language of this time,” he celebrated.
“The Law recognizes physical activity and sport as a fundamental right of citizenship, responds effectively to the demands of the sector, was born to promote a much more developed sport at all levels. We are talking about a sport based on the ecological transition, with the digital transformation and with the needs of sports professionals”, he analyzed about the new text.
Likewise, he attended to the “social dimension”, of which this ‘new’ sport favored by the new Law is now “aware”. “That it is a promoter of equality and inclusion, of territorial and social cohesion and that it the red card to any kind of discrimination,” he added.
“The will to continue developing our sport, work, passion and ambition will mark the activity of the Higher Sports Council in 2023. With words and, especially, with deeds we are demonstrating that this Government is committed to sport as State policy” , pointed out about the work of the Executive to “continue consolidating the sports sector as one of the main pillars of economic growth, job creation and social cohesion” in our country.
For Franco, 2023 will be the year of the consolidation of “the recovery of the sector”, deepening its “modernization through the European Funds”, through “a dialogue with all the sports actors that are relevant in this country”.
