The NBA statement on the Tire Nichols case and the minute of silence before the Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies

Tire Nichols, a 29-year-old man, died on January 10 in Memphis, Tennessee, three days after being violently arrested by five Memphis police officers.

This Friday, January 27, the images of his arrest were made public, causing shock in the United States community.

In the run-up to the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Memphis Grizzlies, played in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a minute of silence was held in memory of Tire Nichols.

The NBA then issued the following statement

“The images of Tire Nichols’ life being unnecessarily cut short are shocking. While steps have been taken toward those responsible in this instance, the NBA remains committed to working with advocates, policymakers and security personnel to work toward solutions to the issues. we continue to face. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Nichols, the entire Memphis community and those affected by the tragic loss and images.”

The Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx franchises also issued statements about the case.
