Two W40 women’s tennis tournaments with bags of 40 thousand dollars and belonging to the World Tennis Tour, will be played starting January 30 at the YMCA Mallorca sports club, in the Iztapalapa mayor’s office, where the participation of players of more than 20 countries, with a majority of Mexican women, among them several of the best placed in the world ranking.

These contests, to which with the support of the International Federation will be added the one for 60 thousand dollars that has been held in Irapuato for 18 years, will be the first high-level women’s tennis in Mexico City since a contest was held in 1968. world circuit tournament at Deportivo Chapultepec.

“We are very proud, it is a true privilege for us that world tennis arrives here in Mallorca, and that players from all over the world are going to participate”, stated Alejandro Hernández, who was president of the Mexican Tennis Federation at the beginning of this century and is now head of the Board of Directors of the YMCA Group of Mexico City.

It is the first time in the history of this Christian association, with a presence in a large part of the world, that it receives a tennis competition of this category, he pointed out.

“It is something fabulous that we are the hosts of players who have been standing out, rising in the ranking international, preparing for the biggest tournaments in the world. This is already a very important one, with a good distribution of points (70 to the winners) and 40 thousand dollars”, he said about the tournaments to be held in Mallorca (Calle Laboristas 49), from January 30 to February 5 and 6. to the 12th of the same month.

“We are pleased, very grateful for this. Here at this club, tennis is played quite locally, internally, but we want to spread it more widely. With the resources we may have, invest them in schools and the promotion of tennis for Mallorca and the metropolitan area.

“We are joining a circuit here in Mexico together with Irapuato, which leads us, the advantage, with a tournament of 60 thousand dollars and with 18 years of being held,” he noted about the contest that will be held a week later (13- February 19th).

“We work with the Federation, who have been behind this project to give strength to metropolitan tennis. We are going to cooperate with everything we can”, she indicated, and encouraged all the players to “not be afraid of Mexico City” and take advantage of these competitions to earn points.

“We hope it will be a great tournament, that the best Mexican players will arrive. Perhaps Giuliana Olmos, who is a doubles player, will not come because she is at the top world levels; she would not be worth it for the type of competition, but the tennis players of singlesthey could all do wonderfully, and then see them in the best competitions in the world”.

Until yesterday, in the register of the International Tennis Federation for the Mexican W40 category tournaments, the nationals Ana Sofía Sánchez, Renata Zarazúa, María José Portillo, Victoria Rodríguez, María Fernanda Navarro, Jessica Hinojosa and Lya Fernández appeared pre-registered, all placed between posts 250 and beyond 900 in the ranking world.

The best ranked so far registered is the Chinese Yue Yuan, occupying seat 119.
