Jakarta, CNNIndonesia

The hashtag STYout (#styout) trending on Twitter is over Indonesian National team lost 0-2 to Vietnam in the second leg of the semi-finals AFF Cup 2022 at My Dinh Stadium, Monday (9/1).

Indonesia again failed to bring the AFF Cup trophy to Indonesia after being beaten 0-2 by Vietnam through Nguyen Tien Linh’s two goals in the third and 47th minute.

This defeat made the Garuda Squad fail to reach the 2022 AFF Cup final and buried the dream of winning this biennial tournament.

After the defeat, the hashtag #styout immediately trended on Twitter. At the time of writing this news, the hashtag was ranked first on the topic in Indonesia, followed by Arhan and Kasian STY in the top three trending.

The hashtag resonated because some netizens really wanted Shin Tae Yong to resign as the coach of the Indonesian National Team. A number of reasons became a factor, one of which was due to the high salary of the coach from South Korea, which reached Rp. 1 billion per month in winning the Red and White Team but failed to deliver any achievements.

Meanwhile, some netizens want STY to step down because they feel sorry for the 52-year coach’s career. Shin Tae Yong is considered to have the capacity to make the team better, however due to the ‘limited’ quality of Indonesian players, the Indonesian national team remains in place.

Since being recruited by PSSI at the end of 2019, Shin Tae Yong’s achievements with the Indonesian national team have only been runner up in the 2020 AFF Cup and a bronze medal in the 2021 SEA Games.

In addition, Shin Tae Yong also made the Indonesian national team’s ranking in the FIFA rankings skyrocket to 151st position and led the senior team and Indonesia U-19 to qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup finals.
