The Miami Dolphins have hired Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator.

This is what the NFL Network learned on Sunday. The former head coach of the Denver Broncos is said to have signed a three-year contract that would earn him between $4.5 and $5 million annually. He will thus be the highest paid coordinator in the NFL.

The 64-year-old coached the Broncos from 2019-2021 and went 19-30. He previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears. He has 33 years of extensive coaching experience in the NFL.

Fangio was until recently a defensive consultant with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that will represent the National in Super Bowl LVII.

In 2022, the Dolphins went 9-8 and finished second in the National Conference East Division. They went down 34-31 to the Buffalo Bills in the first round of playoffs.
