The captains will choose the All Star teams the same night of the match

The captains of the teams that face each other in the all-star game on February 19 at the All Star in Salt Lake City will choose their teammates minutes before the start of the duel in an unprecedented event that will be broadcast live.

The NBA has already applied a format on five occasions in which the player with the most votes from the East and the West chose his teammates for the all-star game, but that also happened live, days before the All Star.

This time the elections will be made directly in Salt Lake City, with LeBron James, of the Los Angeles Lakers, and one between Kevin Durant, of the Brooklyn Nets, and the Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo, of the Milwaukee Bucks, who are emerging as captains. As KD recalled upon finding out, that idea was given by himself on his podcast. “We even gifted ideas to the NBA. You heard it here first,” he commented on Twitter.

The captains will be able to choose their teammates from the group of those most voted for by the fans, the players themselves and the selected media.

Voting opened on December 21 and ended on January 21. James is the one that has received the most preferences in the West, while Antetokounmpo recently took the lead from Durant, according to the latest polls, but the final result will be announced this Thursday, January 26, live on the ‘TNT’ chain, owner of rights.

The participants in the all-star game are decided by 50% depending on the votes of the fans, while the selected players and media weigh 25% each in the final result.
