Even though they have the very first pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears have no intention of selecting a quarterback.
On Tuesday, general manager Ryan Poles said he should be “absolutely blown away” to take a pivot with the pick.
The Bears rely on Justin Fields as a quarterback. They selected him with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft.
“We had some good conversations,” Poles said when asked if Fields would be his team’s starter next year. I am excited with the progress he has made. He also knows what he needs to keep improving.”
In 25 career starts, Fields has gone 5-20. He also had 4,112 yards and 24 touchdowns with his arm, but also had 21 interceptions. The 23-year-old particularly stood out with his legs, going for 1,563 yards and scoring 10 majors.
In 2022, the Bears were the worst team in the Goodell League with a 3-14 record. If they don’t take a quarterback, draft experts expect the Chicago club to go for defensive tackle Jalen Carter or linebacker Will Anderson Jr. He could also trade the first pick to a team desperate to pick a center.
