Elina Svitolina has been off the courts for a while after becoming a mother. In a recent interview for the New York Times she talked about how her time away from tennis has been and she set a possible date for her return to the circuit.

The Ukrainian told how difficult it has been to deal with the current situation in her country due to the invasion of Russia and how this led her to take a necessary breather from tennis. “I did not touch a racket for seven months. I wanted to disconnect from tennis. Maybe I had too much because of what happened at the end of February and all the nerves and all the pressure. The tournaments I played were probably too much for me mentally, so I was very happy to completely switch off.”

In recent weeks, she has returned to the courts to train with her husband Gael Monfils, who also had to stop due to injuries. But both have made it their goal to return this season, “I will try to be ready for the summer, but I try not to rush things,” said the native of Odessa.
