Vietnam have the upper hand in the race for semifinal tickets AFF Cup 2022. They just failed to qualify for the semifinals of the AFF Cup when they lost 0-7 to Myanmar, and even that still has to see the Malaysia vs Singapore duel.
Vietnam will face Myanmar in the final match while Malaysia will clash against Singapore in Kuala Lumpur. Vietnam currently leads Group B standings with a value of seven points, ahead on goal difference over Singapore (+9 to +3).
While Malaysia is in third position with a value of six points. Malaysia’s goal difference is at +3.
These conditions make Vietnam the favorite to qualify for the semifinals while Singapore and Malaysia will fight each other to fight for one other remaining ticket.
However, there was a moment when Singapore and Malaysia could both qualify for the semifinals of the 2022 AFF Cup.
Here are the moments and situations that knocked Vietnam out:
1. Vietnam lost 0-7, Malaysia vs Singapore drew
If Vietnam loses 0-7 to Myanmar and Malaysia vs Singapore ends in a draw in another match, this will allow Singapore and Malaysia to qualify as representatives of Group B.
This condition makes Singapore the group winner with eight points. Malaysia is the runner up with a collection of seven points, as is Vietnam.
Malaysia (+3) has the right to qualify with a goal difference advantage over Vietnam (+2).
2. Vietnam lost 0-8, Singapore lost by one goal difference from Malaysia
When Vietnam lost 0-8 to Myanmar and Singapore lost by only one goal difference to Malaysia, Vietnam was eliminated.
This condition made Malaysia the group winner with a collection of nine points. Singapore and Vietnam then fought for status runner up.
Singapore (+2) will have an advantage on goal difference compared to Vietnam (+1).
