Serious victories for Carolina Marín and Clara Azurmendi to reach the round of 16 in Indonesia

Carlina Marín and Clara Azurmendi debuted this Wednesday at the Indonesian Open, which will be played until Sunday in Jakarta, with comfortable wins in two sets against the Taiwanese Hsu Wen Chi and the Indian Aakarshi Kashyap, respectively.

The Huelva, Olympic champion in Rio 2016, three-time world champion and six times in Europe, beat Hsu, 17th in the world and against whom she had never faced before, 21-10 and 21-10.

Marín, seeded seventh in Jakarta, will play this Thursday in the round of 16 against the Thai Busanan Ongbamrungphan, the executioner of the American Lauren Lam by a resounding 21-4 and 21-9.

Clara Azurmendi also reached the round of 16 without excessive difficulties, in her case at the expense of the Indian Aakarshi Kashyap by 21-17 and 21-15.

The woman from San Sebastian will face off in the round of 16 with the Danish Line Christophersen, who beat the Singaporean Yeo Jia Min in an even duel 22-20, 14-21 and 22-20.

No luck for Bea Corrales or the doubles Corrales-Azurmendi

Beatriz Corrales was eliminated this Tuesday in the first round of the Indonesian badminton Masters, in Jakarta, after falling to the American Lauren Lam 21-19 and 21-16 in 35 minutes.

The North American took a 13-7 lead in the first set, but had to push to face the comeback of Corrales, who went as far as a point ahead on two occasions. In the second game the differences were minimal until 11-11, when Lam took off with four goals in a row.

The doubles that Corrales formed with Azurmendi was also unfortunate, as they lost in the first round against the Taiwanese Hu Ling Fang and Lin Xiao Min by 21-15 and 21-12.

The first set was an exchange of blows in which both pairs alternated control of the match. It was with 15-15 on the scoreboard when the Asians signed a 6-0 run that put them ahead.

Things changed radically in the second, as the Taiwanese pair started by scoring seven points in a row and led throughout.
