Sami Chouchi out of entry in -90 kg, Karel Foubert beaten in repechage

Exempted from the first round, Chouchi lost on waza-ari against the Tajik Dzhakhongir Madzhidov (unclassified). Sami Chouchi decided to go from -81 to -90 kg in the hope of being able to go to the Paris Olympic Games in 2024. The Brussels resident, 6th in the world in -81 kg, was crossed by Matthias Casse, 2nd in the world, on the road leading to the Games. Only one judoka per category and per country is indeed authorized at the Olympic Games. After the Portuguese GP, Chouchi plans to compete in the Paris Grand Slam next week. Exempted from the first round, Karel Foubert (IJF 129) beat the Cameroonian Kevin Budain (IJF 95) on ippon in the second round then the Brazilian Giovanni Ferreira (IJF 320) in the third. He then lost on waza ari to the golden score against the Serbian Darko Brasnjovic (IJF 60) and was forced to go through the repechages where he was again beaten to the golden score, by the Hungarian Roland Goz (IJF 72) .
