Lto Kazakh of Russian origin Elena Rybakina won by 7-6 (4) and 6-3 to the two-time champion Victoria Azarenka and will dispute his first Australian Open Final against the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenkawhich prevailed over the Polish Magda Linette by 7-6 (1) and 6-2.
Wimbledon champion, Rybakina, prevailed over Azarenka in a duel that was characterized by caution in the early stages and by changes of pace before prevailing over his rival in the Rod Laver Arena.
“I am very happy and proud. Without my team it would be difficult to be here, so many thanks to them”, Rybakina, born in Moscow and the first Kazakh champion of a Grand Slam, declared on the court.
Sabalenka joined the No. 22 seed in the Final after ousting the Pole Linette after a chilly start to a frigid afternoon on the main court, in which the 24-year-old reached her first Grand Slam Final after three previous defeats in semifinals.
With this victory, Sabalenka extends his winning streak this year to 10 games, following his successful march to the title of Adelaide, that served as a warm-up for the first big one of the season.
