Remco Evenepoel and co. startled by severe storm in Argentina, organization concerned about damaged roads

Remco Evenepoel and his buddies from Soudal-Quick Step have become acquainted with the fickle weather in Argentina. During the day it is extremely hot, but in recent days, heavy thunderstorms have passed over the province of San Juan in the evening and at night. Last night and early this morning it was like that again.

Evenepoel and co. didn’t let it bother them and left for training this morning at 9 a.m. local time (1 p.m. in Belgium), as the earliest birds of the teams present. The extreme rainfall of the past few days is worrying the organization. The Tour of Juan, which starts on Sunday, will be checked for damaged roads. If thunderstorms pass over the next few days, parts of the route may be changed.

Pieter Serry extensively documents his stay in Argentina on Instagram and posted a photo of the sky illuminated by lightning yesterday. The weather in San Juan makes strange leaps and bounds: extremely hot temperatures during the day alternating with thunderstorms.

Soudal-Quick Step announced that it planned its training this morning at 9 am. This means that Remco Evenepoel and co. the earliest birds of the pack. Their training goes to Villicum, where there is a race track, and Ullum, known for a large lake surrounded by rock formations. Peter Sagan and his teammates also chose that direction.

INEOS-Grenadiers indicated that it would leave half an hour later. Another half hour later, at 10 a.m., four teams turned on: BORA-Hansgrohe, TotalEnergies, Trek-Segafredo and Israel Premier Tech. Fifteen minutes later, the boys from Movistar started training.

Trek-Sagafredo is facing problems because some of the bikes did not arrive on time.
