Before the duel against Lugano, Rapperswil-Jona had lined up five wins, the Bianconeri four. So it was clear that a series would come to an end. The home team owed the fact that that of the Lakers continued to the strong majority game. The St. Gallen took advantage of all four chances, with none of these four power plays lasting longer than 58 seconds.

The first four goals for Rapperswil came from foreign players: Roman Cervenka (7th), Maxim Noreau (17th), Jordan Schroeder (45th) and again Cervenka (57th). This is all the more noteworthy given that the Lakers are the team with the most Swiss goals. Cervenka also had an assist credited to the ultimately decisive 3:2.

The 37-year-old Czech made his ninth straight game on the scorer list, scoring three or four points in five of those nine games. Although Cervenka missed nine matches due to injury, he clearly leads the scorer ranking with 15 goals and 35 assists, second-placed Chris DiDomenico has 43 points (18 goals). So Cervenka is well on the way to qualifying as top scorer for the second time in a row.

The Lakers have been the measure of all things in the National League since the turn of the year. They won seven of eight games and also scored points in the defeat against Davos (4:5 nP). They also won the last game in 2022 against Zug (4:3 nP). Only leader Genève-Servette has fewer points lost than Rapperswil. Although Lugano lost, it showed that the trend is right. With five against five field players, the guests were the better team.
