Philadelphia solves the first Super Bowl ticket – sport.ORF.at

The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl for the first time since winning the title in 2017. The Eagles beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 (21-7) at home in the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game on Sunday and qualified for the final for the fourth time. The opponent in the 57th edition of the Super Bowl, which will be played on February 12 in Glendale (Arizona), is the winner of the duel between Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals.

The match winner for the Eagles, who had finished the regular season as the best team in the NFC with 14 wins and three losses, was on the one hand the running game and on the other hand the defensive. Miles Sanders twice, as well as Boston Scott and quarterback Jalen Hurts scored the four touchdowns of the hosts, for the 49ers only Christian McCaffrey made it into the end zone before the break – also by running play. Kicker Jake Elliott contributed a field goal in the Eagles’ win.

In addition, the Eagles defense not only forced the guests to lose three turnovers, but also took both quarterbacks out of the game in the 49ers. First, shooting star Brock Purdy injured his elbow in the first series of attacks during a defensive action by Haason Reddick, which led to the first ball being lost. Shortly after the break, substitute Josh Johnson also had to leave the field with a suspected concussion. Purdy, who only came on because of the injuries to regular quarterbacks Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, continued to play, but was unable to turn the rudder around.
