Piotr Swietlicki, chief physician in Guben since November 2022, is expanding the cardiology department and will carry out stent implantations once a week in Cottbus in the future. The advantage for Guben patients: they can carry out the preliminary examinations for this in the Guben hospital close to where they live. The patients then change houses, but continue to be accompanied and treated by him. In addition, they benefit from the modern treatment options of the Cottbus heart catheter laboratories and the hybrid operating rooms. He also wants to establish the implantation of cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators in Guben in the future. “This is new in Guben and a good step in patient care,” he says, looking forward to his tasks at the new place of work.

Svenja Siebenhaar grew up in Munich, but returned to her family’s homeland, Lusatia, for her education. In the Jende Manufaktur GbR from Forst, she is already in her third year of training as a textile designer and is currently the only one in the Cottbus chamber district and also nationwide she is one of only two young women who are currently learning this trade in the 3rd year of training. “The profession of textile designer is so rare that many people don’t even know it. This uniqueness is the result of a lot of manual work, which no machine can replace. This is manual knowledge that has to be passed on. Anyone who loves handicrafts such as macrame, crocheting, braiding or knitting is in the right place for this job,” says Svenja Siebenhaar.

On Wednesday, the mayor of Cottbus received Tobias Schick a grant notification of almost one million euros from the project officer for the development of the innovation center at the University Medicine Cottbus, dr Ulrike Gutheil and the Prime Minister’s Lusatia representative, dr Klaus Freytag. With the money, the planned formation of the Innovation Center for University Medicine (IUC) takes on further contours. The plan is to construct and equip a building with office space as well as medical work and laboratory space with a usable area of ​​around 1,200 square meters. With the center, another necessary prerequisite for the planned innovation center at the University Medicine Cottbus, which is anchored in the Structural Strengthening Act, is implemented.
