Pelley and Monahan exclude themselves from voting to award LIV World Points

DP World Tour Managing Director Keith Pelley has revealed that he and his PGA Tour counterpart Jay Monahan will not take part in the vote on who should decide whether or not LIV Golf events are included in the World Rankings calculation. .

On the advice of their law firms, the two owners of the historic circuits took the decision to withdraw from the vote concerning the introduction of the LIFE Golf au Official World Ranking (OWGR).

Keith WatersPelley’s right-hand man, who represents the International PGA Tours Federation on the OWGR Board, did the same.

Thus, the decision whether or not to award world ranking points to the dissident circuit led by Greg Norman is in the hands of the organizers of the four big men’s Majors: theAugusta National Golf Clubthe PGA of Americal’United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Royal and Ancient de St Andrews.

“At the last meeting of the World Ranking Board, Jay Monahan, Keith Waters and I recused ourselves”explained Pelley on the sidelines of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

Unfavorable opinion

The question therefore remains to be decided and after having agreed not to ban them from their major events, the Augusta National Golf Club and the R&A will have to decide on another thorny issue.

The chances of LIV Golf players recovering world points in the 2023 season remain slim. Indeed, several criteria are not met and last summer, Martin Slumbersthe general manager of the R&A, called the LIV circuit “not credible”.

President of Augusta National, Fred Ridleymeanwhile deplored the upheavals of recent months that have divided men’s professional golf and its values.
