«Orión», «Ronáutica Marinas», «Quen Vai», «Cinco Islas Albariño», «Secolite» and «Iasi», first leaders of the Regata Interclubes Ría de Pontevedra

Luxury premiere for the ninth edition of the Interclubes Regatta. With wind conditions that exceeded fifteen knots from the northeast, the fleet of 50 boats was able to inaugurate the prestigious circuit with a coastal regatta of pure spectacle in the Pontevedra estuary. Orión, Ronáutica Marinas, Quen Vai, Cinco Islas Albariño, Secolite and Iasi were the best in this first stage organized by the Ro Yachts Club and are at the head of the provisional general classification in their respective categories.

As planned, the Race Committee was able to give the starting horn almost punctually at 2:35 p.m. Ahead, a 14-mile coastal route for the longer boats between the island of Tambo, Polígono de Bueu, Morrazán, Pelados and Bueu and Morrazán again to head back towards the finish line. Classes 2, 3 and A Dos, for their part, completed a similar but somewhat shorter route -10 miles-, while class 4 and Clásicos and Veteranos covered 5 miles round trip to Pelados.

In addition to throwing the first results of the circuit, this Saturday’s test was also the only one scoring for the Concello de Poio Trophy.

In Class 1, Javier Pérez’s Orión starts the Interclube Regatta strong again. The Monte Real Club de Yates team, which is defending the title in its category, is at the top of the general classification ahead of Ramón Barreiro’s Ziralla Primero (Ro Yachts Club), who was second. The third position on the provisional podium is currently held by Juan Carlos Pérez Olmedo’s Ozosana (Ro Yachts Club), who was the fastest in real time, completing the test in two hours and twelve minutes.

Great result in Class 2 for Jorge Carnero’s Ronáutica Marinas (Ro Yachts Club), who was the best of the day, winning both in corrected time and in real time with one hour and 38 minutes invested. Behind, second and third place went to Luis María Pérez’s Balea Dous (RCN Rodeira) and Francisco Lusquiños’s Squid II (CN Portonovo), who crossed the finish line just ten seconds apart.

In Class 3, the first victory of the 9th Interclube Regatta was won by Quen Vai de Laureano Santiago from Real Club de Mar de Aguete. He was also the first to complete the ten and a half mile course. They are followed in the general classification by Solyola led by Tucho Díaz representing Club Náutico de Beluso in second position and Portuguese Javitudo led by Pedro Barbosa (Clube de Vela Atlántico), who occupy third place.

In Class 4 there were no surprises and Iñaki Carbajo’s Cinco Islas Albariño (Ro Yachts Club), who won the last edition with full authority, starts this year again at the top of the classification. José Manuel Castro’s Piko Norte from Club Náutico de Boiro was second both in real time and in compensated time, and Ernesto Smyth’s Trotto (CN Beluso) scored third position with a wide advantage over fourth place.

In the Solitaire and A Two Classes, the defending champion, the Secolite of Javier Rey and Jorge Javier Justo (Ro Yachts Club), also repeats the leadership, and does so with an advantage of more than twenty minutes over the second classified, the Maral IV of Roberto de la Puente and Carolina Munch (CN Portonovo).

Finally in Classics and Veterans, which this year has up to ten boats registered, the day’s victory and therefore the provisional lead went to José Antonio Ortigueira’s Iasi (CN Portonovo). Behind, the second position this Saturday was awarded to one of the rookies, Fabián Garrido’s Laxe da Canteira (Ro Yachts Club), and third was Javier Pazó’s Cassandra, who sails representing Club Náutico Portonovo.

The next appointment will be on February 11, this time under the organization of the Real Club de Mar de Aguete.
