Hockey superstar Leon Draisaitl and his Edmonton Oilers’ run in the NHL continues. Nico Sturm also scored – but that wasn’t enough.

Leon Draisaitl scored his 27th goal of the season in the NHL in Edmonton’s sixth straight win. Nico Sturm was there for the first time this season with a goal and an assist in a game – but that wasn’t enough.

The Oilers celebrated a 4-2 (2-0, 1-1, 1-1) away win at the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night (01/22/2023), winning their sixth game in a row.

He hits and hits and hits

In all six successes, Germany’s Sportsman of the Year 2020 was involved in at least one goal. Draisaitl scored against the Canucks in the middle of the second period to make it 3-0, and the native of Cologne scored his 27th goal of the season.

Draisaitl’s co-star Connor McDavid was also successful, the Canadian scored the opening goal and prepared the 2-0. The Oilers remain third in the Pacific Division with 57 points, but the first-place Vegas Golden Knights are within reach with 60 points.

Defeats for Sturm, Seider and Stützle

Nico Sturm scored a premiere this season: for the first time, the native of Augsburg scored a goal and set up one in a game. But with the San Jose Sharks, Sturm suffered a 5-3 (1-0, 1-2, 1-3) away defeat at the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sturm scored at the beginning of the final period to give the Sharks a 3-2 lead, but they then conceded three goals.

JJ Peterka drove the Buffalo Sabers to a 6-3 (2-0, 1-3, 3-0) home win over the Anaheim Ducks. The other four German NFL players in action suffered defeats: Despite an assist with the Detroit Red Wings, Moritz Seider had to admit defeat to the Philadelphia Flyers 1:2 (0:0, 0:0, 1:2) at home. Tim Stützle conceded a clear 1:5 (1:1, 0:2, 0:2) home defeat against the Winnipeg Jets with the Ottawa Senators.

Grubauer in penalty trouble

Goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer lost with the Seattle Kraken 1:2 (0:0, 1:1, 0:0) after a penalty shoot-out against the Colorado Avalanche. Thomas Greiss scored when the score was 4-1 against the Chicago Blackhawks, but was unable to prevent his St. Louis Blues from losing 3-5 (0-2; 2-2, 1-1) at home.
