NFL pundit Robert Griffin III leaves live interview as wife goes into labor

Former NFL star Robert Griffin III quickly quit a live TV interview as his wife went into labor. He was covering the game between Michigan Wolverines and TCU Horned Frogs live on ESPN. Griffin and his ESPN colleagues were evaluating the game when he received a phone call. Much to the shock of his fellow experts, he picked up the phone while being live on television. Griffin was then heard saying, “I have to go. My wife is going to give birth! I’ll see you guys later!

The moment came during the third quarter of the semi-final. The former NFL star stormed off, quickly removing his microphone gear before rushing for the exit. His departure was filmed live as a television camera followed him.

Robert Griffin shared a tweet about the incident with the caption “WIFE IS IN LABOR!!!!!!!”

Later, he gave us another update on the incident, mentioning that he had taken a flight from the southwest to return home. It was followed by a soft line indicating,

“Hang on baby, daddy is coming!”

Grete Griffin also shared an Instagram post after the incident with a photo of the two of them, sharing some of how she liked the gesture and didn’t expect it to go live.

“I phoned him while he was on live TV expecting not to reach him, but I guess when your wife is 9 months pregnant and calls you, you answer the phone no matter what you do , eh ? All I had to say was the word ‘work’ and this man STOPPED CALLING A BOL GAME and sprinted off to the car to get to the airport and catch a flight of 4 hours to get home.

Robert Griffin and Grette Griffin have been married since 2018. They share two daughters Gloria and Gameya. Robert is also the father of a daughter named Reese from his previous marriage to Rebecca Liddicoat.

Robert made his debut with the Washington Redskins. He completed 19 passes and two touchdowns in his first game. This performance earned him the Offensive Player of the Week award. Although he was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012, the resulting injuries and inconsistencies derailed his career to some extent.
