Full attack against Hansi Flick’s World Cup loser. From the province…
At the New Year’s reception of the Hildesheim district association in the Ochtersum secondary school, the DFB vice-president settled accounts!
Ralph-Uwe Schaffert (66), football boss of Lower Saxony and the entire north: “When the German internationals cover their mouths like little monkeys and order the hairdresser in the house, you don’t have to be surprised how they lose against Japan.”
What was meant was the mouth-to-mouth protest against the “One Love” armband ban by Fifa before the 1: 2 against Japan.
National players like monkeys? The comparison, which was first reported by the “Hildesheimer Allgemeine”, caused trouble in the DFB.
Ronny Zimmermann (1st DFB vice amateurs): “I think it is important that we critically review the World Cup in Qatar and its consequences for the DFB. There was an opportunity for that. In all controversies, we should treat each other fairly. If you accuse our internationals of ‘covering their mouths like little monkeys’, that’s not the case.”
BILD reached the North boss and retired judge.
Schaffert: “I regret the choice of words, didn’t want to offend the national team. The term “little monkey” is unfortunate, I wouldn’t say that anymore today. That was definitely wrong. But I said that, can’t undo it now.”
How did the monkey comparison come about?
Schaffert: “I’m not only DFB vice president, but also in the NFV and at the base. And I can only say that this action was not well received. I wasn’t in Qatar myself, I only followed it on TV. That’s how the term ‘little monkey’ came about, based on the three monkeys that cover their mouths, ears and eyes.”
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf has not yet contacted his deputy and did not want to comment in public.
