Michael van Gerwen and former German international win tournament with well-known Germans | Darts

Michael van Gerwen won the fifth edition of the Promi Darts World Championship on Saturday. The Dutchman formed a duo with former German football international Kevin Grosskreutz at the tournament in Düsseldorf in which darts players are linked to well-known Germans.

Van Gerwen was with Gerwyn Price (with comedian Bülent Ceylan), Peter Wright (with presenter Amira Pocher), Michael Smith (with host Matthias Killing), Gabriel Clemens (with rock star Henning Wehland) and Fallon Sherrock (with entertainer Oliver Pocher) of the party in Düsseldorf. Mighty Mike formed a duo with 34-year-old Grosskreutz, the former footballer of Borussia Dortmund, among others, who played six international matches for Germany and was also part of the Germany selection when the world title was won in 2014.

Van Gerwen and Grosskreutz were too strong for Sherrock/Pocher and Clemens/Wehland in the group stage. Clemens and Wehland were again dealt with in the semi-finals, after which the duo Price/Ceyland were beaten in the final. With that, Van Gerwen won the tournament for the third time. At the first edition in 2017, the Dutchman won together with former goalkeeper Tim Wiese and in 2020, the last edition until this weekend, he won together with handball player Pascal Hens. In 2019, Van Gerwen lost the final when he played together with Rafael van der Vaart. Former top football players Lothar Matthäus, Stefan Effenberg and Luca Toni also participated once.
