Matthäus: “Kolo Muani is an asset to the Bundesliga”

Even after the 1-1 draw at FC Bayern, Randal Kolo Muani is on everyone’s lips. Like three days before in Freiburg, the Frankfurt striker scored well and now has 19 points. In doing so, he ensures a novelty in the Bundesliga.

Since kicker recorded assists (1988/89), Kolo Muani is the first player who managed to collect 19 points in his first 17 games in the Bundesliga. Through the goal in Munich, the 24-year-old has seven goals and twelve assists. So far, Erling Haaland and Diego have been at the top of this statistic with 18 points. With an assist in the 3-0 win against Schalke and the goals in Freiburg (1-1) and Munich (1-1), the French vice world champion continues where he left off last year. “An incredible striker with brutal quality,” said captain Sebastian Rode.

Already the goal during the week in Freiburg impressed. Kolo Muani darted away from the goal to get a high cross from Mario Götze at the penalty line, made three Freiburg players look old and shot precisely into the bottom right corner. The equalizer at Bayern was no less spectacular. The 24-year-old initiated the goal himself by passing to Daichi Kamada before running diagonally across the pitch, shaking off Matthijs de Ligt and being served by the Japanese. He then left his national team colleague Dayot Upamecano behind before converting precisely with his left.

“Upamecano is a strong central defender who is not easy to play against. I was a bit lucky there too. If I can help the team, I’m satisfied,” explains Kolo Muani modestly as usual, but doesn’t hide it: “It’s always fun to play against meeting great teams.”

“I’m glad he stayed on the left foot”

Last but not least, coach Oliver Glasner was pleased that the striker dared to finish with his left foot: “Kolo has great quality in one-on-ones. I’m pleased that he stayed on the left foot. He usually goes inside on his right foot. The finish was fantastic.”

Lothar Matthäus got really enthusiastic about “Sky”. “I’m thrilled with his performance throughout the season. He plays with joy, self-confidence and speed,” praises the 61-year-old and continues: “Good dribbling, good shots, good last passes to his teammates – he’s one Enrichment for the Bundesliga.” This is especially true for Eintracht, who have to work on creating more chances again so that they are not so dependent on Kolo Muani’s currently impressive efficiency.
