Star infielder Luis Arraez was traded from the Minnesota Twins to the Miami Marlins for pitcher Pablo Lopez and prospects on Friday.
The 25-year-old Arraez was invited to the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, in addition to finishing 13th in the All-American MVP ballot. He finished the season with a .316 batting average, eight home runs and 49 RBIs.
For her part, Lopez made her major league debut in 2018 and has never worn a uniform other than the Marlins. Last season, he went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA in 32 starts.
Outfielder Byron Chourio and shortstop Jose Salas, two under-20 prospects, are also heading to Minnesota.
The decision to trade Arraez, a fan favorite, was a tough one for the Midwest roster.
“It’s less easy to make a transaction like this when you know you have a player like Luis, who was well-liked and worked very hard every day,” Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said at the time. ESPN network.
