London’s mayor offers application

Mayor Sadiq Khan wants to review London’s bid for the 2040 Summer Olympics. “For London, the appeal of an application for 2040 is that it would be the greenest Olympic Games of all time – one can be curious,” said the 52-year-old to the news portal MyLondon.

London has already hosted the Summer Games in 1908, 1948 and 2012 – no other place has hosted the Olympic Games four times.

Khan pointed out that all the structures and competition venues required for the Games are already in place and that sustainability should play a central role in any bid. It is not the first time that London’s mayor is considering the British capital’s candidacy again, most recently in the summer of 2022 he spoke publicly about a possible application.
