The Ottawa Redblacks and quarterback Jeremiah Masoli have agreed to a two-year contract extension.

The Canadian Football League club made the announcement on Monday.

“Having consistency at quarterback is a key component to being successful as a CFL team, so we are very happy to be able to keep Jeremiah Masoli with the Rouge et Noir,” said the general manager. Shawn Burke, in a statement.

“Jeremiah has proven himself as a leader on and off the pitch, and makes us better as a team when he has the ball in his hands.”

Masoli had joined the Ottawa team before the last season of the Ambrosie circuit, after having worn the colors of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for eight seasons.

In four games with the Rouge et Noir in 2022, the 34-year-old completed 84 of the 126 passes he attempted for 1,083 yards and two touchdowns. He was also the victim of two interceptions.

The American pivot suffered a knee injury in the fifth week of activities and was unable to play afterwards. He had been the victim of a vicious hit by Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive lineman Garrett Marino. The latter had also been expelled from the meeting and suspended for the next four games.
