Last week it was reported that the best handball player in Latvia Dainis Kristopáns with the next season, his career will continue in the German Bundesliga unit “MT Melsungen”, with which an agreement has been signed until the summer of 2027.
Kristopan’s new team took the sixth position in the 18-team table after 18 rounds of the Bundesliga. Seven points separated “MT Melsungen” from the top four, but the Hanover and Hamburg teams behind them were right next to each other.
According to the German media, “MT Melsungen” is considered to be the financially richest team in the German Bundesliga. In addition, it is Kristopan who might currently have the most lucrative contract in the league. It is estimated that a Latvian will earn 60,000 euros per month in Germany before taxes. Two other MT Melsungen players – Julius Kuhn (around 50 thousand euros) and Kai Häfner (around 45 thousand euros) have significant salaries.
The 32-year-old Kristopans “MT Melsungen” will not be the first club in the Bundesliga, because for a short time in 2020, the Latvian handball superstar played for one of the big German “Fuchse” in Berlin, in the moment between moving from the North Macedonian team “Vardar” of Skopje to the French giant PSG.
