Jean Alesi released from charges of aggravated degradation

Former F1 driver Jean Alesi was released on Thursday from the facts of “damage to the property of others by a dangerous means” for which he was being prosecuted. He admitted to blowing up a window in his former brother-in-law’s office with fireworks in 2021.

After blowing up the window of his former brother-in-law’s architectural firm in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon (Gard) with a “big fireworks bought in Italy”, Jean Alesi was tried on Thursday for “damage to the property of others by dangerous means”. The former Formula 1 driver was acquitted by the Nîmes Criminal Court.

“That day, I was driving back from Italy. In Ventimiglia, I bought a pack of firecrackers. It is customary in the country to use it during celebrations. Foolishly, I wanted to implement this tradition to celebrate the reunion with my son. A son I hadn’t seen for a year”explained at the bar the 58-year-old man whose the words are reported by Midi-Free.

In his submissions, the prosecutor had requested the release of the son of the former racing driver. For him, there was no evidence that he “knew of his father’s intention”.

“I said to my son, ‘Come on, let’s take a walk around town.’ But since I had been drinking, he preferred to drive. If I had said to him: ”Come on, we’re going to set off some firecrackers, he would never have wanted to go out””explained Jean Alesi, wanting at all costs to preserve the career of his son in Japan.
