Huelva bets on culture, sports and tourism to combat seasonality

The delegate of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Junta in Huelva, Teresa Herrera, has indicated that she advocates “Take advantage of the synergy of culture and sport with tourism” for the deseasonalization of tourism in the province and has insisted that it is “absolutely necessary” that all administrations, and “jointly” work “in order to place Huelva on the map, in the spotlight where it deserves to be”because it has “all the necessary ingredients to be able to do it”.

This was stated by Herrera in an interview, giving as an example of this synergy the “great sporting event” of basketball in the cadet and children’s categories held from January 3 to 7 in the capital, Aljaraque, Punta Umbría, Palos de la Frontera and Lepe , “that has moved many visitors”or the three absolute basketball qualifying windows for both women and men last November.

In addition, he recalled that the capital faced the Badminton World Cup in 2021, which, in his opinion, indicates “The great organizational capacity that we have from all areas”has outlined the delegate.

“When we think of Huelva we have to think of heritage wealth both architectural and naturall, we have a coast with unique virgin beaches, Andévalo with open-air mines and a unique flamenco palo, declared BIC, such as the fandango, a County with a winery tradition for a future approval of a wine route, a unique Sierra with landscapes unmatched, gastronomy of excellence, we are the cradle of Discovery, dean of Spanish football, birthplace and creation of great artists and writers, in all its branches, a unique pilgrimage that marks culture and tradition and attracts religious tourism in masses”, has underlined.

Likewise, he has remarked that Huelva is “the oldest city in the West”, with vestiges, archaeological complexes and “very important” dolmens, such as the Dolmen de Soto, “the most important in all of Europe”.

In the same way, he referred to the “great athletes” of the province “who are ambassadors” who “wear the colors of Huelvasuch as Carolina Marín, among many”, as well as asserting that “we have great sporting events, a clear golf tradition and great infrastructures for it”. “I could continue talking about the many benefits that Huelva has and it would take me hours”, he has added the delegate.

Thus, He recalled that the province “not only has sun and beach tourism”, but also has “all these resources to contribute to deseasonalization”coupled with “the unbeatable climate” that “allows the length of the seasons to be increased in the municipalities, especially in the coastal ones.”

“We already have ten Tourist MunicipalitiesThree of them were recently approved in the last Andalusian Tourism Council of the Junta de Andalucía. Of the 786 municipalities in Andalusia, only 43 are considered in this category, and ten of them are in our province. This means that they can access exclusive financing lines for them and that allow them to further enhance their areas”, Herrera pointed out.

The delegate has pointed out that she thinks that the policies aimed at Tourism in Huelva and the province “have not been well oriented”, as well as she considers that “We also have to reflect and do good reading of the return that has meant what has been done up to now in this matter, a good analysis, being brave when deciding politically what we need”.

“All of this is always aimed at build what our territory really needs so that, once and for all, it is the perfect springboard to promote Huelva”, he concluded.
