Golf / PGA: Total collapse of Jordan Spieth at the Sony Open

Leader at the end of the first round, Chris Kirk remained at the top of the standings thanks to a round of 65 (-5) during the second round of the Sony Open, played in Hawaii on Friday.

His cumulative -11 puts him one shot ahead of Taylor Montgomery and JJ Spaun.

It’s quite the opposite for Jordan Spieth who collapsed after a round of 64 the day before, which allowed him to share control with Kirk. Spieth played 11 more shots than the day before to turn over a 75 (+1) card and thus miss the cut by one shot.

Spieth birdied just one against six bogeys in a round marked by erratic play from the tee box to the green.

Corey Conners is the highest-ranked Canadian representative in 23e position with a cumulative of -5. His compatriots Nick Taylor and Adam Svensson find themselves tied at 58e rank, nine strokes from the leader.

Canadian Michael Giglic was also excluded from the final rounds with his cumulative +5.

A handful of golfers were unable to complete their 2e round due to darkness.
