Former Portugal specialist Santos takes over the reins of the coach of the Polish national team – Football – Sportacentrs.com

Santos was already seen in the VIP area of the Warsaw airport on Monday and the news about the coach’s addition became almost official when the federation announced a press conference in the evening. He will take over from Czeslaw Michniewicz, who led Poland to the first round of the World Cup finals.

The Portuguese Santos will be the third foreigner in the position of head coach of the Polish national team, after the Dutchman Leo Benhacker and his compatriot Paula Souza.

In 2014, the 68-year-old Santos replaced Paula Benta as coach of the Portuguese national team. In 2016, under his leadership, the team became the European champion and in 2019 also won the UEFA Nations League. After failing to make it to the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup final tournament, Santuš resigned.

During his coaching career, Santos has managed such well-known Portuguese teams as “Porto”, “Benfica” from Lisbon and “Sporting”. He has also coached clubs in Greece – AEK and Panathinaikos.

On the other hand, in the summer of 2010, he became the head coach of the Greek national team, which he also took to the finals of the 2014 World Cup, where the team was able to get out of the subgroup and exited in the first round of the elimination tournament.
