Manchester City and Everton shared the points in a fair draw on Saturday evening. A point won for Amadou Onana’s Everton, Kevin De Bruyne’s Manchester City lost two points in the title fight. Although there is more talk in England about certain interventions by Kevin De Bruyne and teammate Erling Haaland.

Erling Haaland scored another goal on Saturday, his 21st (!) already this season in the Premier League. Superlatives fall short to describe his phenomenal statistics, but it was not all peace and quiet in Manchester. Not only because of the loss of points, but also because of one much-discussed action by the Norwegian goalgetter. On the stroke of half-time, Haaland did not hold back in the least to regain the ball. With an amazing flying tackle he mowed down opponent Vitaliy Mikolenko. And what logically should have followed, did not happen. Referee Madley apparently didn’t mind the intervention too much and stuck to yellow.
“Haaland was lucky to be allowed to stay on the pitch,” said former referee Peter Walton at BT Sport. Judge for yourself in the video below:

Even though Kevin De Bruyne was not exactly a saint during the match. In England they also cannot stop talking about the Red Devil’s charge against his Belgian teammate Amadou Onana. At Talk Sport, former football player Danny Mills gives his view on the facts.
“De Bruyne’s action is much worse than Erling Haaland’s,” it sounds. “Haland’s tackle seems worse because he goes full speed towards the ball, but a yellow card is in order there. At Onana, De Bruyne was simply much too late with his intervention. He gets away with only yellow. De Bruyne is one of the best midfielders I’ve seen play, but I don’t think many others would have been able to get away with it like him,” Mills refers to the good reputation of the Red Devil.

Irritation at Guardiola
It goes without saying that coach Pep Guardiola was questioned about both actions of his top players. The Spaniard reacted rather irritated to this. “Are we really going to talk about that now? Haaland indeed deserved a yellow card, but that’s all. I urged him to calm down right after it happened, because we couldn’t afford to fall with one less man. He said he was angry because of an earlier incident in the game, but otherwise he took it well. What Everton has done, have you missed?” said an irritated Guardiola, who did not want to comment on a negative relationship with the arbitration. “I have been employed here for seven years and I have never complained about the performance of the referees.”
