FIFPRO Asks AFC & FIFA to Intervene PSSI

PSSI’s decision to stop Liga 2 and Liga 3 has been in the world’s spotlight, and has received opposition from FIFPro

PSSI through an Executive Committee (Exco) meeting some time ago decided to stop the League 2 and League 3 competitions.

Apart from this decision, they also decided that League 1 2022/23 would not have relegation. All of this as a result of the Kanjuruhan tragedy.

The timeline for Indonesian football has indeed been chaotic because of the incident at Kanjuruhan, but the victims have been many players and officials who competed in Liga 2 and Liga 3.

It seems that this has become the world’s attention, with FIFPRO sending a request to the AFC and FIFA to intervene in PSSI.

FIFPRO is an international federation for footballers around the world, and of course they uphold the rights of players who currently, the victims, are Liga 2 and Liga 3 players in Indonesia.

“FIFPRO has asked FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to immediately intervene in Indonesia, where a decision has been taken by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) to cancel the remainder of the 2022/23 season for the second and third leagues (Liga 2 and Liga 3),” they wrote through an official release.

FIFPRO has clearly received reports from Indonesia, including APPI which is the association of Indonesian professional footballers. Simon Colosimo as general secretary of FIFPRO emphasized that there must be intervention for PSSI.

“FIFA and AFC must intervene, because this terrible decision has a serious impact on the lives and careers of around 700 professional footballers in Indonesia who have contracts with Liga 2 clubs,” he stressed.

Liga 2 itself was stopped on the basis that many clubs refused to continue the competition. But over time, it was revealed that more clubs were ready to resume the competition than those who weren’t.
