KOMPAS.com – President of the French Football Federation (FFF) Noel Le Graet resigned from his post on Wednesday (11/1/2023) local time.

The French Football Federation announced that the decision was agreed by Noel Le Graet together with the FFF Executive Committee.

“Noel Le Graet in agreement with the Executive Committee of the FFF at a meeting today (Wednesday) in Paris has chosen to step down from his duties as president of the federation until the completion of an audit carried out by the Ministry of Sport and awaiting its analysis by the Comex (executive committee) of the FFF,” the Football Federation said in a statement. Speak to RMC Sport, Le Graet said that he did not care about Zidane’s coaching career and where he would end up.

“Zidane to Brazil? I have no problem. He can go wherever he wants, to the club or the national team,” said Le Graet.

“I don’t really care about that. Is he trying to call me? No. I’m not taking his calls.”

The young star of the French national team, Kylian Mbappe, immediately reacted strongly. He criticized Noel Le Graet’s statement which was considered disrespectful to Zinedine Zidane.

“Zidane is French, you shouldn’t show such disrespect,” Mbappe wrote on his personal Twitter.

Real Madrid, which is Zidane’s former club, also criticized Noel. Real Madrid considered Noel’s statement very inappropriate because Zidane had made France famous.

After receiving criticism from various parties, Noel Le Grate finally apologized and admitted that he had never intended to insult Zidane.

“I want to apologize for that statement. My statement in no way reflects my view of Zidane as a player and as a coach now,” Le Graet told RMC Sport.

“I gave an interview to RMC which I shouldn’t have done. I made that statement because they were looking for controversy by confronting Didier Deschamps and Zidane,” said Le Graet.

“Deschamps and Zidane are two great French footballers. I admit that I made some clumsy statements that caused misunderstandings,” Le Graet added.
