FC Schalke 04: Sane with a declaration of war
Sidi Sane is not only the brother of national player and ex-S04 star Leroy Sane, but also the next great talent of the FC Schalke04 miners’ forge. The 19-year-old made eleven appearances for the Royal Blues U23s last season. In this he got three goals. Due to his good performances, he made a brief appearance this season in the first round of the DFB Cup against Bremer SV and even made his Bundesliga debut in Schalke’s last league game against FC Bayern.
Sane sees his optimal position on the wings. “I can use my pace well there. I’m fast, and I have qualities in one-on-ones,” says the talent in an interview with the club. The ability to play on the wing, bring speed into play and beat opponents one-on-one is what the other players in Thomas Reis’ squad lack. Because of this, the attacking player can be a real option for the S04 coach if signing another winger fails.

In the same interview, Reis also commented on his young protégé. “Sidi has very good approaches that you see from time to time – but not always,” explains the trainer. Accordingly, the S04 jewel still has to work on consistency. “He doesn’t know how good he can be. Sidi can become an exciting player,” Reis adds afterwards.

Sidi Sane is already the third member of the Sane family to wear the Royal Blue jersey. Leroy Sane and Kim Sane have all played for FC Schalke 04.
