Enzo Fernandez has made a decision… and it’s not going to please Club Brugge

The world champion was coveted by Chelsea.

Enzo Fernández’s big move to Chelsea seems to have been ruled out for good. On Tuesday evening, the Benfica midfielder kissed the emblem of the Portuguese club and was unequivocal.

Tuesday evening, Benfica qualified for the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup thanks in particular to a scorer Fernández. Benfica won 0-2. His reaction after the goal caused great joy among Benfica fans, as the midfielder kissed the club’s logo, as a sign that he wasn’t going anywhere.

Fernández has been the protagonist of a considerable soap opera in recent weeks: Chelsea tried with all their might to bring him to London, much to the anger of Roger Schmidt, the Benfica coach. “Chelsea were disrespectful, but it’s done. Enzo is our player,” Schmidt said last week. Chelsea appear to have given up for good now that an €85m bid has been swept away by Benfica. The Lisbon club demands a minimum sum of 120 million and it’s too much for the Blues.

In the Champions League, Club Brugge will play their round of 16 against Benfica. The first leg at the Jan Breydel Stadium is scheduled for February 15. The return match in Portugal will take place on March 7.
