Elvis Andrus and Jurickson Profar, among options for the second base of the Red Sox
EL NUEVO DIARIO, BOSTON.- With Xander Bogaerts in San Diego and Trevor Story out for at least a few months after right elbow surgery, who will play shortstop for the Red Sox?
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Boston “has expressed an interest” in free-agent shortstop Elvis Andrus, as well as fellow free agent Jurickson Profar, who can play both the infield and outfield.
The 34-year-old Andrus had his best season since 2017 last year, hitting .249/.303/.404 with a 3.1 WAR (Baseball-Reference version) between the A’s and White Sox. Sure, he wouldn’t replace the production of Bogaerts or Story, but he could provide adequate offense and defense.
